About Sub-Zero and Wolf Appliances
History of Sub-Zero
Westye Bakke founded the Sub-Zero Freezer Company in 1945, with a vision of modern refrigerators and freezers that complemented the kitchens in which they were installed. Subzero pioneered both free-standing freezers, and also built-in refrigerators in the 1950s. Subzero has since acquired the domestic line of Wolf Ranges including kitchen stoves, cooktops, wall ovens, warming drawers, and vent hoods, which has diversified their line of home kitchen products.
What makes a Sub-Zero distinctive?
Subzero and Wolf stand a shoulder above the rest, and carry a certain level of distinction thanks to both their unique look and high quality standards. Sub-Zero refrigerators and freezers are both larger and heavier than most competitors, and have many unique design features, including a top service compressor, being built into the cabinetry, and complex control board that run most functions on their modern units. Sub-Zero refrigeration products generally have either a stainless steel exterior, or have custom fronts to match existing cabinetry. Sub-Zero’s wine coolers are unmatched in quality, and allow temperatures as low as 38 degrees Fahrenheit whereas most wine coolers have their lowest setting in the mid 40s. Many Sub-Zero units allow for two separate set temperature zones, allowing for both red and white wines to be set to an ideal temperature by wine type. Sub-Zero is also unique, in that they still manufacture these high quality products domestically in the United States.
